Bart Brechter is the Curator of Gardens and landscape for the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. He started his career as the Azalea Curator at the Calloway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Bart joined the staff at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston in 2001 as the Curator of the Bayou Bend Gardens and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston Main Campus and since 2016 also is the Curator of Rienzi campus of MFAH.
Bart is an active member of the Texas Arboretum and Botanic Garden Association, the Camellia Society of America, the Southern Historical Garden Preservation Alliance in addition to serving as 2018- 2019 Vice President of the Greater Gardens of America Preservation Alliance, 2007-2010 President of the Texas Azalea Chapter of the Azalea Society of America and 2003-2005 President of the Mercer Society. He also is an Honorary member of the River Oaks Garden Club; Garden Club of America and an Honorary Member of the Garden Club of Houston; Garden Club of America.
Bart Brechter earned a BA Degree in Horticulture from Stephen F. Austin in addition to a certificate in ”Historic Landscape Preservation “ from the University of Virginia.
