“Edible Springtime Weeds of Sugar Land”
Presented by Dr. Mark Vorderbruggen “Merriwether”
Medicinal and Edible Plant Author
Meet Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen — Scientist, Forager, and Wild Plant Enthusiast
Often described (half-jokingly) as a scientist raised by wolves, Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen blends the precision of chemistry with a deep love for the natural world. With an M.S. in medicinal chemistry and a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry, he holds sixteen patents and has published numerous research papers—but his true passion lies in uncovering the secrets of wild edible and medicinal plants.
Since launching his website, ForagingTexas.com, in 2008, Mark has become one of the nation’s leading voices on foraging. He’s authored two acclaimed books—Idiot’s Guide: Foraging and Outdoor Adventures Guide: Foraging—and co-created the Wazoo Survival Gear foraging bandana. Yes….the scarf! His enthusiasm and expertise have earned him frequent appearances on TV, radio, and podcasts, as well as a devoted following of nature lovers across Texas and beyond.
At our upcoming meeting, Dr. Vorderbruggen will lead us into the fascinating world of local foraging—sharing practical tips, safety guidelines, and the “do’s and don’ts” of identifying edible and medicinal plants found right here in Sugar Land. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or simply curious about what nature provides, you won’t want to miss this lively and inspiring presentation!
